I would like to try to deal with the problems connected to euthanasia. The first thing to do is to define, what does euthanasia mean- it is an easy death and today it is supposed to mean a gentle and good death of a person or merciful killing.
The subject of euthanasia causes numerous controversies. It is discussed in terms of morality, philosophy and religion. I think that both- the opponents of euthanasia and its supporters agree that the life of a man has to be protected. However, for some people it is the most superior value, while for the others, there are cases, in which we should let the other die. The former claim that we cannot make euthanasia legal, as it is a crime and a very bad deed. They want to exert the laws prohibiting euthanasia in any case. The other group of people claims that if a person is terminally ill or is not able to live normal life, they or their families should have a right to decide if they want to live or not.
There are many different ways of performing euthanasia. Years ago it meant termination of breath or stopping the circulation of blood. Nowadays, the technological development enabled the doctors to stop the respiration and heartbeat.
We have to keep in mind that medicine is developing very quickly. We can never know, what discovery may be done to make it possible to cure patients, which today seem to be impossible to cure.
From the other side, some people, who are terminally ill suffer tremendous pain. If we know, that someone's life cannot be saved and that there is no way to help the person, we should not prolong his or her pain. Moreover, some people are aware that they are so ill that they would never be able to live a normal life, and I think that they should have a right to decide, if they want to live any further.
It is difficult to draw a straight conclusion in the subject of euthanasia. It is very problematic and soon our society will have to decide, if it should be allowed or not.
