In Wales each pregnant woman must follow many rules so as to have a healthy baby. There are many predictions concerning pregnancy. If a woman, who expects a child, steps on the grave, the baby might die shortly after the delivery. A woman must also avoid putting her hands into water, which is not clean. If she doesn't, her child might have coarse hands. A child, which is born during the night, might become a foreseer- might keep in touch with magical forces. When the baby comes to the world under a new moon, it will become a great and eloquent speaker. If the baby raises its head when it is being baptized, it will live a very long life. If not- if the child sleeps or stays peaceful during the ceremony, it may die soon. Moreover, there are special glasses for the guests to drink during the ceremony of christening. They may be used only for this occasion.
COURTING CAKE
Some time ago teenage girls in England used to make special cakes for their boyfriend. It happened at the very beginning of summer, when the strawberries are already over-ripe. Today it is a traditional welcoming of summer. Here is the recipe for this special cake.
Ingredients: 225g of butter, 225g of caster sugar, 4 beaten eggs, 350 g of flour, 2-3 table spoons of milk, 300 ml of fat cream, 250 g sliced strawberries, for decoration- icing sugar.
Cooking:
The oven must be pre-heated to 190-200C. Three cake tins have to be prepared- greased and lined.
Sugar together with butter have to be creamed till they are fluffy and pale. Stirring, add the eggs- one by one and beat it all well. Now you may add the flour and milk. All should have the consistency of cream.
