All people like to know that someone else needs them. We want to support others and we need their support as well. In Poland, older people, who no longer work, are not independent financially. The pensions paid to them is really small. It is very sad, but some older people become very unhappy, when they are not able to take care of themselves. They don't want to be dependant on the others- mainly their children. My grandmother, who is in such situation, says that it is terrible to feel like a burden to others. Those people often are lonely. Their husbands or wives often die. Sometimes, they have no family. Being lonely and bored with life can lead to depression. The young people, who could support them, often have no time for it. They work hard, are very busy with their lives and find no time for the elderly. Some older people move to old people's houses. For single or ill people, it is a good solution. However sometimes the children make their parents live in such houses. They isolate themselves from the elderly. Young people find it difficult to understand the needs and problems of the older. Young consider them completely out of date. The elderly, on the other hand, cannot understand new realities of life.

Older people often get depressed, because they think that they didn't do something important in their lives. They couldn't get what they wanted.

As years go by, people gain knowledge and real wisdom. They become calmer and they don't get nervous so easily. At the same time, they lose energy. They have much more problems than younger people, with their health. Most of them have to spend almost all their money on medicines.
