Katowice

5th March, Wednesday

Dear Paul

Thanks for the latest news from you. I'm very glad that you passed your exams so well. You want to know which places in Poland are worth visiting. Well, I think that Cracow should be on the top of your list of tourist attractions of Poland.

You can travel to Poland by plane; it would be the most convenient for you to fly from London to Balice Airport in Cracow. Then, you should take a bus to get to the city centre where you can find many cheap and nice hostels. I suggest you stay in Cracow for at least four days as there are really a lot of things to see.

The most famous tourist landmark of Cracow is Wawel Castle. Perched on the Wawel Hill rising above the Vistula River, used to be a royal residence of Polish kings. Today, Wawel is a museum where you can see many interesting exhibits from the State Art Collection, including the collection of Flemish wall carpets. The greatest of the treasures is Jaged Sword which was used at all Polish coronations.

The most unusual place in Cracow is the Main Market Square which is always crowded with tourists coming from all over the world. It is also the setting for many cultural events that take place in Cracow. Another important place is Church of St Mary which contains a famous masterpiece -a carved altar created by Wit Stwosz in the 15th century.

However, Cracow is not only a city of historical importance but also a city of many pubs, restaurants and cafes. The nightlife of Cracow is really great, I'm sure you'll love it.

I hope I've managed to encourage you to visit Cracow. If you are going to come in summer, the weather should be fine -July and August are usually warm and sunny but it often rains in July so take a jumper and umbrella with you.

It's all from me now. Take care and start getting ready for a trip to Poland!

I'm looking forward to hearing from you

Kamil
