The first school in Piotrowice was constructed in the year 1922. Thirteen years later, in 1935, wojewoda of Silesia and the local authority of Piotrowice decided that a Public School number 1 should be created. The school was very good and educated many generations of inhabitants. The reform of education performed by the government of J. Buzek in 1999 changed this school into a gymnasium number 20. The school has the same head master since 1978 and it is Bożena Sobotka. She is not only a head master but also the head of the teachers. She manages the school very well, takes care of the financial condition of the school and changes the school so that it suits the 21st century. She introduces the changes that are expected by the local community, the parents and the students. She takes care of the staff of the school: it consists of seasoned teachers who enjoy learning and maintains good communication with the students. There are fourteen classes in the gymnasium: six II classes and eight III classes. Many other pupils form primary schools are expected to come to the gymnasium. The school is well equipped: there is a new gym and a gym for anaerobic exercises. There are many various sports that the students of the school can practice: football, basketball, volleyball, and swimming. The school representation takes part in many competitions and achieves some successes. The computer class is well equipped: there are modern computers and an access to the Internet. Other classrooms also posses utilities needed for the teaching of particular subject: biology, chemistry, geography etc. Students can choose many foreign languages to learn: English, German, and French. The school takes part in Copernicus - Socrates programs. The library in the school has full array of books and is buying new. The European Club functions in the school. There are many exhibitions; parties and other activities organised in the school.
