"Fiddler on the Roof" is the 1971 film version of the Broadway musical. It's directed by Norman Jewison and won three Oscars. The main character is played by Chaim Topol. The role of his wife - Golde plays Norma Crane. In my opinion, "Fiddler on the Roof" is a spell-binding movie to watch during holidays.

The story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions while the world and civilization around the shtetl Anatevka (small Jewish town) changes rapidly. He has got one aim- to find perfect husbands for his three oldest daughters. The situation complicates when it turns out that daughters' choices are different than his. There are also shown everyday life and the problems of Jews in the beginning of the 20th century.

The most important thing in musicals is music, of course, and it's excellent in "Fiddler…" I'm sure that everyone knows the song "If I were a rich man" but there are many more involving ones in this movie. The screenplay is also written in a way which makes spectators laugh. All Tevye's questions to God are unforgettable - for example: "I know, I know. We are Your chosen people. But, once in a while, can't You choose someone else?"- is annoyed Tevye asking. The actors play in a gripping way and it's impossible to get bored while watching this movie.

I'd like to recommend "Fiddler on the Roof" to people who want to watch both the beautiful and enlightened story. Holidays are the right time to watch it, because songs will be haunting them long after watching "Fiddler…"
