I thing that London is one of the most interesting cities in Europe. During holidays many tourists from all over the world come to London, which is situated on the river Thames. In 43 AD it was founded by the Romans.
When I will be visiting London, one of the first things I will see is Big Ben. This famous bell was installed in 1859. Big Ben took it's name from Sir Benjamin Hall who was responsible for its constructing. Big Ben is not only huge (weighs 14 tons!), but also very precise. Twice a day some officials from the Greenwich Observatory make sure that the clock is right.
Other attraction of London I'd like to see is The Buckingham Palace. This famous palace, built in 1703 by the Duke of Buckingham, is in the center of London. It is two places, not one. It is a family house, where children play and grow up. It is also the place where presidents, kings and politicians meet the Queen. Buckingham Palace is like a small town, with a police station, two post offices, a hospital, a bar, two sports clubs, a disco, a cinema and a swimming pool. There are 600 rooms and three miles of red carpet. Two men work full-time to look after the 300 clocks. About 700 people work in the Palace.
There is also The Tower Of London, which was built in XI century by William the Conqueror. It was a prison, zoo and arsenal. It was also the Royal Residence until XVII century. I can also see there Crown Jewels in the Jewels House.
The center of London has many different areas. An interesting place to see is colorful Chinatown, a Chinese district full of oriental shops and restaurants.
One of the most popular bridges in the world is Tower Bridge, which is situated on river Thames. This bridge was built between 1886-1894 by Sir Horace Jones. At the beginning steam engines were used to raise the bridge so that ships could pass under. It has two impressive gothic towers.
I'd like to see the impressive ancient, medieval and oriental collections of the British Museum or have some fun at Madame Tussaud's museum where I can see wax figures of politicians, film stars and queens and other famous people. In the evening I can go to one of the many theatres and see one of the many musicals.
In London I can travel on the double-deckers, underground or taxi to get different places around the town. London has 3 main airports: Heathrow which is the biggest, Gatwick and Stansted.
In my opinion Discovering London may be really a fascinating experience. There are many other places to see in London, so it is impossible to see everything in one day or even one week.
