I find London one of the cities, which are most wonderful on the whole world. It is certainly my favorite European city. Through the city flows the River Thames and it is not far from the sea- only 40 miles. People all around the world know it because of its numerous monuments of art and history, museums, galleries, theatres, parks and stores.
The city was founded in AD 43 by the Romans. William the Conqueror was the founder of the Tower of London in 1066. It became the most significant building of the city. It used to be an arsenal, a zoo, a treasury and a prison. Moreover, until 1600s there used to live royal families. There are numerous bridges in London and the Tower Bridge is considered the most beautiful one. Sir Horace Jones constructed and built it in the years 1886-1889. As it was built, it required steam engines to rise it so as to enable the ships flow under it. On each side of the river, the bridge has a wonderful tower in gothic style.
When you come for an organized trip to London, you will supposedly begin visiting it from the Westminster Abbey. All Kings and Queens of Great Britain have been crowned there. It is a wonderful gothic cathedral, where the monuments of the past and the tombs of the greatest people of Britain are gathered. Near to Westminster there is the House of British Parliament. Although it was built in the nineteenth century, it is also in gothic-like style. It consists of numerous buildings. Nowadays it is open for visitors- you can go inside and see the House of Lords as well as the House of Commons.
When you turn left from the Parliament, you can see the beautiful St James's Park. It is the eldest royal park in London. Many tourists take a rest there, before they go further to see the Buckingham Palace. All people I know have heard about that place. It was founded in 1703 and it is situated in the heart of the city. The royal families have lived there for centuries. It has many different functions. There live the families with children, who grow up and play there. Moreover, it is a place, where many authorities of the entire world come- kings, queens, politicians, artists and other come to pay a visit to the Queen. This Palace is like a separate district of the city- there is a post office, police station, hospital, sport clubs, bar, swimming pool and cinema there. In the Palace itself there are more than 600 rooms. The red carpet is three miles long. There are hundreds of servants, even two men, who are responsible for the 300 clocks. All and all, almost 750 people work in the Buckingham Palace.
Everyone must have heard the address Downing Street 10. There lives the British Prime Minister with his family. It is another place visited by many tourists.
Going further on your trip around London, you have to see the Big Ben. It is a bell, which is 146 years old. Sir Benjamin Hall was its constructor and the clock was named after him. The bell is 14 tones heavy and it is extremely precise. It measures time and it is controlled by the specialists from the Observatory in Greenwitch. They are responsible for keeping it punctual.
Another place, which you have to visit when in London, is Trafalgar Square. In the middle of this square there is a great monument of Admiral Lord Nelson, surrounded by fountains. By Trafalgar Square there is the National Gallery- the gallery offering its visitors the collection of priceless paintings of the greatest artists of the world.
If you have much time to spend in London, I suggest that you go take long walks around the city. You will certainly find the places, which you can find interesting. I like the Chinatown very much. It is a district, where many Asian restaurants and stores are and it is extremely colorful. If you are interested in great entertainment, you need to go to Soho. In that district, you will find numerous interesting theatres, cinemas, discos, pubs, night clubs and gambling clubs. There is also the Picadilly Circus- the place of entertainment and joy.

London, the capital city of England is considered one of the most influential and important center of finances in the world. The Bank of England and the Stock Exchange in London are known all around the world. Furthermore, it is the great cultural center. The monuments of art and history, museums, galleries and many other things are known by people from different countries.
If you get tired of walking all around, you should take a rest in of the many parks. In Kew Gardens and Richmond Park, one can admire the beauty of many exotic plants. In the Cutty Park there is a great tea clipper, known by all British people.
Don't think that it is all that London can offer you. To mention all attractive places and thins in London would take a very long time. But I want to add that all those people, who love buying things and going around the shops, have to go to Regent Street and Oxford Street. There are also huge department stores, famous around the world, like Harrods and similar.
However, the place, which every visitor wants to see, when in the city, is the British Museum. There one can see several pieces of art from different parts of the world. When in London, one can visit also one of the theatres.
In London and its districts and suburbs, one can travel by the underground, by buses, trains and taxis. There are also 3 airports next to the city- the biggest one is Heathrow and the other are Stansed and Gatwick.
In the capital city of England live many famous people- actors, musicians and other artists. One can meet them walking on the streets or admire the wax figures resembling them in the museum at Madame Tussaud's.
I advice everyone to go and see this city themselves. It is really worth visiting.
