Contemporary world is full of different dangers. We are constantly threatened by violent acts of others. There are terrible wars going on in many countries in the world. When you watch or listen to the news, you learn about thousands of innocent people killed every single day. However, people die not only on the wars. There are many diseases, which kill them as well. The worst of them seems to be AIDS. In a short period of time, it became the real international epidemic.
This disease couses death of so many people, because the scientists have not yet been able to find the efficient cure for it. They have been working on finding it almost 20 years now. We only got to know, how the disease works. The virus csusing it- HIV- is copied in cell's genetic code in the body. The ill cell dies and the virus multiplies. It gets chance to kill next cells. This makes the immune system o the bpdy inefficient.
The danger of AIDS is caused also by the fact that the virus spreads extremely quickly. People are not really aware of different ways of getting infected. It is possible to be infected with HIV by having a sexual intercourse with the diseased person or by having direct contact with his or her blood (for example when the needle for injections is used by many people). When a woman, who is ill or infected gets pregnant, it is possible that the virus will be passed to the baby. The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the rate of people infected with HIV or having AIDS in 2002 increased anormously and was equal to 20 mln people by that time.
Furthermore, this disease will be a growing problem for people all around the world, unless we start to understand the nature of it. Ordinary people know very little about AIDS. Some even think that AIDS is the punishment, which affects bad people only. There should be stronger international campaign informing all people abou the nature of this disease. It may not only stop the spreading of the disease, but also change the attitude of many people towards those, who are ill. There is no denying that AIDS became one of the mot serious problems nowadays. As we have no good medicines for it, we can only help those, who suffer from it. And, in my opinion, we all should work to help them.
