The modern world is very different from the world I the past. Many things changed, especially the behaviour of the people. I would like to present the differences between the marriages in the past and in the present. There are some good changes but there are also bad ones.
I will start from the positive changes. In the past many people got married not because they loved each other but because their parents told them to do it. The reason for marriage was usually money. Sometimes the children who did not know each other were married - because the family wanted it. Nowadays the people decide by themselves and they marry each other because of love. After the marriage they are partners. They help each other: in work, at home and with children. They are free to do many things which the wife and the husband could not do in the past.
However, there are also changes for worse. The people divorce very often which is a huge problem in Europe and America. They also quickly stop being romantic after the wedding. They marry because of love but it soon disappears. The couples quarrel often and have many other problems. Alcoholism is one of them. It is a very difficult situation, especially for the second person, the children and the rest of the family. The second difficulty is the lack of money. It often leads to other problems. The condition of some marriages may be very grim.
There are many differences between the marriages in the past and in the present. The people who live now think that the types of marriages from, for example 1950, are "old-fashioned". They could not live in them. But we cannot say which of them is better. Some things changed for worse but, on the other hand, there are positive changes. The institution of marriage is still changing and we do not know how it will look like in 100 hundred years.
