The Palace of Culture and Science belongs to the well-known buildings in Warsaw. This monumental building is situated in the city centre. It used to be the highest building not only in the Eastern Europe, but also in Poland. Today there are a lot of higher buildings in the capital of Poland.

The idea of constructing such a building was made up by Josef Stalin, whereas the palace was projected by L.W. Rudniew, who was the Russian architect. The Palace of Culture and Science was built by over 3,5 thousands workers and soviet engineers.

The building began in 1952 and it was finished in 1955.

It is said that the Palace of Culture and Science was a kind of gift from Russian nation to the Polish people. In this way they tried to celebrate The October Revolution.

The Palace visit over half million tourists every year. On the top of it there is the viewing area. The visitors who buy tickets and get up to the top by elevator admire the breathtaking view. Tourists buy also some stamps, postcards or other souvenirs of the Palace.

There are a lot of exhibition taken place in the Palace, which attract not only the tourists, but also the Warsaw inhabitants.
