Dublin is the capital of Ireland. Ireland is an island with a great history. Dublin is the city located in the East side of Ireland. Dublin is known because of great people living there but also because of many irish pubs and great atmosphere. The atmosphere is mainly created by beer which is famous in the whole world. The history of Dublin is very old. It was founded by Celts in abouth fifth century. From that time it was growing bigger and bigger. After it was conquered by the Normans, the defensive walls were built all around the town. Later, in 13 th century it was rebuilt by the English king. It was very important fortress in middle ages. It is said that Dublin was built in 941 but the official date is 988. This would mean that the city was celebrating its millenium in 1988. Dublin was recognized as a capital city of independent Ireland in 1921.

Dublin is very attractive place. It is placed upon Dublin Bay, near the Irish Sea. It is inhabited by very nice and causy people. They like to relax and have fun. They are very good in making parties with a large quantity of beer. They invite people from all the street than. The most famous tradition of irish people is St. Patrick Day. This is a day of festivities in all country. People wear only green colour and they have fun till the dawn.

The most famous moniuments of Dublin are:

St. Patrick's Cathedral

It is a large cathedral which was built in the same place where St. Patric was baptising new christians. There is a legend about the holy well under the cathedral. A little church was built there in 5 th century. It was rebuilt in 1171 to become the biggest church in Ireland. During the ages it was also university. Nowadays you can admire there the bells which are famous because of their size and the church organ which are the oldest and the most beautiful in Ireland. It is a place which is not to be missed during touring around. Just remember that it is still a place of worship.

Dublin Castle

Beautiful and very old castel is overlooking the city from the Cork Hill. This shows the great past of Dublin. The first castel was built by Normans in 13 th century. Nowadays there is only Record Tower which is the remnant of those times. Another part of the castle called "Undercroft" is remaining the Vikings. It was also the fortress with very turbulent history. The castle was an aim for all invaders who came on the island. It was consumed by fires, raked with cannons. It was used as a prison for a long time. Nowadays it is a turist and a conference center. The other parts of the castel are: the Chester Beatty Library, which is concidered as one of the most valuable book and manuscript collection in the world, the Portrait Gallery, the Gothic Royal Chapel and the Wedgewood Room. Like in every turist center there is also a shop with souvenires and restaurant.

Áras an Uachtaráin (The Irish White House)

Aras an Uachtarain means "the house of President". On the beginning it used to be small house but later during the years it has been rebuilt several times. Nowadays it is a large, overwhelming building. It is opened for turists, so if you are interested you can explore it inside.

In my opinion Dublin is very beautiful and interesting city. It has got specific atmosphere what makes it more interesting. If I was to compare it to any other cities, I would say it is much like Cracow. Dublin is my favourite city, which I think is the most beautiful in the world.
