"Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing" these are the words by Oscar Wilde. Is it true that in our world people spend a lot of money on everything they want but in reality they cannot see what is really important.

On the beginning, we got used to many things. We like spending money on things which are absolutely worthless. We are a consumer society with created needs. The advertisements are convincing people that they should buy new TV or mp3, or DVD or another washing machine, etc. because otherwise they won't be able to exist. But is it realy important? Will those things make our lives better?

Oscar Wild is telling us that we know the prices very well. We tace care only about the material world. We know excately the costs of everything. We try to have the well paid jobs, we want to have big houses with expensive cars. We like going into expensive vacation. We only focuse on the material aspect of the world.

The author want to tell us that there are more valuable things than money. We should stop for a moment and think a little bit about our lifes. Are the cars, houses, vacations, jobs the most important? Can they give us happiness? In my opinion only people and being with them can give us a real satisfaction and happiness. Having a family, talking with wife or husband, dealing with the problems together and laughing together can make you happy. Looking at your children, who are growing up and are healthy can make you happy. Going out with friends can make you happy. Being with people who are giving you love and the feeling of acceptance may lead only to pleasure which cannot be bought by any amount of money.

As far as I am concerned world is too much concetrated on owning things. We should rather concentrate on giving. People who are free from materialism are much more happy than those who have got everything already. If you work hard but for your family you will earn the most valuable thing in the world - love. On this point I completely agree with Oscar Wild.
