New York is the city in the United States of America. It is one of the most famous cities in the world. It is also the city of world trade and business. Besides the money and wealth you can also admire there the worldwide renowned museums, boutiques of the greatest designers, etc..

New Amsterdam was the first name of the city which was founded in 1625. The founder's name was Henry Hudson and he was a Duch. About fourty years later, in 1664, the English gained the control over the city and changed its name to New York. From the beginning of XIX th century the emigrants from all over the world started to come to the city. For some of them it was just a stop in further way but for many it was home. Nowadays it is the largest city in USA.

New York is known as a business center. In the world there are three cities concidered as the business capitals: London, Tokyo and New York. These are the cities to rule over the world finances. There are some points of industry in New York. The biggest is clothing and chemical industry. Of course the food industry is very developed. The city concentrates the media like: radio, television, press. It is also the worldwide mass communication center.

New York is devided into five districts: Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Richmond and Queen's. the biggest and the most attractive district is Manhattan. It is also the oldest part of New York. Manhattan is devided into smaller parts: East Side and West Side. The other names of parts of Manhattan are Lower Manhattan - Downtown, Midtown, Upper Manhattan - Uptown. The symbol of Amercan wealth and business is placed on the most famous street in New York - Wall Street. It is a large bull, which is the symbol of American stock market. Wall Street is the place where you will find the New York Stock Exchange and American Stock Exchange. It is also street of all bigger banks in America. One of the most famous is Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The most of people live in Brooklyn. Manhattan is business district. It is also home of the wealthiest pople from all over the world.

I said earlier about the industry in New York. Well, I didn't mention about the most important industry - it is turism. There are millions of turist visiting city every year. When you are in New York there are some places that you have to see: the Empire State Building, Times Square, Radio City Music Hall, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Wall Street, the Brooklyn Bridge, Metropolian Museum of Art, Central Park, etc..

The best known statue in the world is the Statue of Liberty. It is situated in the Liberty Island. It is the symbol of indepence of United States. It is also concidered as a symbol of democracy and the entrance to the new, better world. The moniument was made by French artist and it was a gift of France to the USA on the centary of Declaration of Independence. It was situated on Liberty Island in 1886. Nowadays you can go on a ferry to the island and admire this huge moniument.

Although New York is the city of skyscrapers there is a huge amount of greenery. You will find there green squers, parks and green belts. Moreover, you will find there the forest in the center of the city. It is known all over the world because of its charm. It is the most favourite place of recreation for all inhabitants and not only. It is known as Central Park. The park with rare plants and different types of birds. It is place were you can play baseball or jog through the green alleys. You can take a ride on a horse back or in a carriage.

Another symbol of New York and the fame of America was the World Trade Center. This Twin Towers were known as the biggest buildings in New York. They were important place of business. Tourists from all over world were coming to see the wonder of architecture. Unfortunately, they were the target of terrorist and in 11 September 2001 they were destroyed by the plains which were hijacked and than aimed to crash into the buildings. Many people were killed then. It is a sad date in the history of USA. The terrorist attack was a shock for people not only in America. From that tragedy the security on airports and in the city is permanently increased.

There is no doubt that New York is a city of turists, culture and entertainment. There is something going on all the time. The performances, parades, street entertainment are to seen every day. The well known holiday and probably the most famous is the New Year. All people gather than in front of Times Squere and they count down the seconds to welcome the New Year.

New York is also known as "Big Apple". I don't know why it is called "apple" but I know why "big". There are about 8 million inhabitants living on the 831 squere kilometers. It is city which never sleeps.
