Do you agree that floods are caused by the rivers? Well, you can say that this statement is true but you also need to know that the cause of flood disasters are those little streams near your house. People know a lot about water and most of all about the weather that is why they prepare for the floods but only when it comes to big rivers. Unfortunatelly, the big troubles are often caused by the streams which were ignored when there was still time to prevent the flood.
I would like to remind you that it was not Dunajec which caused the flood in 2001 but stream called Kamienica. It was that brook that had overflowed the nearest woods, fields and people's properties. The stream which is not wider than road and not deeper than half a meter had caused so big damages that people had to be flooded up. It is not strange that all of the residents of destroyed houses were looking for somebody who was guilty and who would be punished for neglecting his dutes. But is it so easy to point out the culprit? I have to say no. there are a lot of people who are guilty for not only floods but also for cutting down the rain forests, greenhouse effect, damaging ozon layer. All of these misfortunes are the result of bad management of people.
Water is one of the Earth element, it is a part of nature. I think that people are too weak to fight with the nature. In my opinion we should respect it and try to use it in a good way. Our technic is on a very high standart so why not to use it in building special floodbanks which would be extrasafe. On the other hand I think that nature shows people in that way that nothing belongs to us and that we are very small and helpless. We have no chances to win with the nature but we can still face up the danger.
