This is a short composition about the town were I was born. Sanok is a small town in the South - East of Poland.
It is a part of podkarpackie province. I would like to start from short history of my town. It was found in the XI
century by the russian prince. There are some remains of the ortodox church and the graves of the nobitities
from that times. The town was growing bigger and bigger and in XIV centure it was incorporated to Poland and
was granted town charter. Unfortunatelly, the fire spread through the entire town few times. In XVI century
Sanok was a part of royal widow's remuneration. The castle was built but the town was collapsing since the
XVII century. It started to pull itself out of the gutter after the first world war. From that moment it is
permanently developing. Nowadays it is still small but very causy town. It has got over 40 thousand inhabitants.
There are well prospering factories. One is designing and building buses which are sold not only to Polish cities
but also abroad. The other one is the factory of rubber. It is making all kinds of gaskets. But Sanok is not only an
industrial town. A lot of cultural events are taking place in Sanok. There is a community center in Sanok. You can watch there movies, dance in a folk group or in a dancing group. There is also theatre which has got a lot of young people working in it. Every year there is a big cultural event called "Adam Didur's Days". He was a well - known tenor. This days are full of street performances, theatres, operas, etc. It is the best time to came and visit Sanok. If you don't like this kind of events you can spend time riding on a bike or on a horse back as there are many bicycle lines prepared. You can see picturesque surroundings of Sanok by trekking through the Słonne mountains which are not very high. If you are intersted in history you can go for a walk to the Open Air Museum which is one of the biggest in Poland. It will acquaint you with the folk regions situated in the South - East of Poland and the West parts of Ukraine. After a long walk you can sit by the tavern next to the museum, listen to the folk music and drink cold beer. You are always welcomed in the Historical Museum were you will have chance to see a large exposition of icons dated back to even XI century. If you are not a fan of sacral art you can go to the second floor of the museum to admire the exhibition of paintings by Zdzisław Beksiński who is known all over Europe. There is a lot of things to do in Sanok which invite you to meet the nature by staying on the turism farms. There is a swimming pool and a skating rink. You can also go sailing because it is near to Solina lake from Sanok. You can borrow there the water equipment like: yachts, boats, pedal boats. If you wish to stay there longer you can rent a cottage. You don't need to worry about the food as there are a lot of bars and pubs with hot sausages, grilled fish and cold beer. Of course if you don't like sailing and sunbathing you can go trekking to the Bieszczady Mountains. This wild mountains are waiting for the turists who like nature and tough conditions. When you go trekking you need to be prepared for facing wolfes or bears.
Sanok is perfect place for holiday for all family. There is always something to do either for adults and for children.
