There are some arguments against and pro the expansion of European Union.
To the advantages of the membership in European Union belong:
+ Poland will be a part of the politics system of European Union and in this way we can consolidate the democracy
+ All barriers between "backward" east and well-developed west will be eliminated
+ All duties will be eliminated, so cheaper products will be available
+ The common currency called euro will be introduced
+ Extra charges will be provided by European Union for some developing fields of Polish economy (for example agriculture or shipbuilding)
+ Extra charges will be provided by European Union for all bigger pro-European investments
+ Common objectives will be established, safety in Europe will be guarded and extra charges for police and army will be provided
Thanks to the integration we will be allowed to travel through Europe and any heavy passport controls won't be required. What is more, we will be free to settle and work in almost every country of the union. This will create great opportunities for also young people looking for a job abroad or just wanting to study abroad. Thanks to the European integration we will be able to get some information about our neighbours and be familiar with their traditions. For many years we could only passively observe the European political scene and now we will take part in creating European policy and objectives. European Union provides money for its member to modernize equipment of police and army, to support some investments and to set up some important training.
When the accession documents are signed and Poland is a member of the Union, we will have to accept the Union law, which guarantee the equal rights for every member country and its citizens. Thanks to the accession to the Union some investors will be encouraged to invest in Poland and the investments in our cities will be spreading. We hope that our earnings will be also higher and levelled to the European standards.
In spite of all theses positive arguments, there are some disadvantages of the extension of European Union. They are often mentioned by leaders of Eurosceptics parties. To main threats belong:
- After the accession of Poland to European Union it won't be possible to withdraw form the agreement
- There will be the unequal competition. "Backward" Poland will be always poorer than all theses well-developed European countries
- The Union will provide the unequal surcharges for first years of our membership
In my opinion the integration with European Union will bring a lot of advantages and will be better for all citizens. Some Eurosceptics are afraid of the fact that Poland will loose some independence. Some of us are frightened that we loose our land, religion and traditions. But I think that we shouldn't be afraid. European Union has been existed for many years and any member country doesn't complain of the membership. The expansion of the Union will be for better for all of us.
