Kate read the whole letter again and sighed. She left her room to take a glass of water. Then she sat down on the floor and started crying. "Why has it happened to me? It's the worst thing ever happened to me" she cried. Then she drunk some water and read the whole letter again. "It may be a mistake or just a joke" she thought. The author of this letter wrote that he had kidnapped her favourite yellow duck.
"Who is so cruel to do such a thing to me?" she burst into tears.
Then she finished crying and she decided to wait patiently for the telephone. They should have called soon. The kidnappers rang an hour later.
"Don't even try to call the police! If you do it, your duck will be seriously damaged!" - the man in the receiver shouted.
"Don't do this!!! Please!!!" Kate answered. "I'll do everything you want to rescue my duck."
"Ok. Nice girl! We want you to bring us two big packets of crisps and 4 kg of rotten bananas. Don't even try to trick us! We are observing you all the time!"
Kate was scared. She didn't know what to do. Where could buy 4 kg of rotten bananas! It was nonsense. Every shop offered only fresh bananas. Without the second thought she ran outside the house. She took the bag with her. She was lucky, because in the nearest shop there were only rotten bananas. So she bought 2 kg of them and two huge packets of crisps.
After the shopping she went to the station, where the kidnapers supposed to wait.
As soon as Kate reached the station, she saw a strange man. He was wearing pink trainers and shirt. Kate's heart was beating as mad. Then she saw that the strange man had her duck in his hand. Kate approached him and asked to give back the duck.
"I'll do it, but at first give me the ransom" the man answered. She gave him the bag full of bananas and crisps and he gave back the duck.
"Goodbye and thank you for your cooperation!" he said and suddenly disappeared.
Kate was so shocked that she couldn't say any word. She didn't know who the man was. He looked really strange. Kate had never seen someone like him before. But she was happy that she was given back the duck. Even today when she thinks about what happened that day she is scared.
