A book "Forest Gump" was written by Winston Groom. It is a very nice and interesting story about a man, who is an idiot, but at the same time is cleverer than more other people.
The story begins in the early 1960s and continuous up till 1990s. It is concentrated on Forest's life and on historical events as well.
We meet Forest as a child. He has problems in getting to normal school. The teachers want him to go to a school for retarded children. But his mother makes him attend a normal school. There he meets the love of his life- Jenny Curran.
At the beginning he is not accepted by other kids. But his schoolmates start to like him, when he proves to be an excellent football player. Thanks to football, Forest does well at school and is even accepted to the University. But studies there are too difficult for him and after one year he has to go back home.
This is the time when the war in Vietnam starts and Forest has to go to the army. After another year they send him to Asia.
Although he is not really intelligent, he becomes a great soldier. He is very obedient and committed to the army. He gets to know Bubba there and they become real friends. They have plans, that when the war is over, they will start a shrimp business together. Forest helps his friend even on a battlefield and stands by him when he is dying. When he comes back to US, he starts the shrimp business on his own.
Groom's novel is very interesting. It tells you much about the historical and events in the US. What is most important- it shows us that it is important to respect all people, even if some of them are considered idiots.
