The film 'Black Hawk Dawn' was directed by Ridley Scott. The screenplay was written by Stephen Grahan, Steven Zaillian and Ken Nolan. The main characters of the movie were cast by Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Tom Sizemore and Sam Shepard.

The movie tells about the operation organized by American Delta Force, intended to stop the civil war in Somalia. The operation called 'Irene' appeared to be extremely difficult and painful for Americans. The plan prepared by the army was not realized. The action was the greatest defeat of the American Army since Vietnam. Shortly after the operation started, it changed into long lasting fight against the whole city of Mogadishu- Somalia's capital city. Americans wanted to capture or kill the local dictator and they ended in fighting with civilians and militia Adida. Young American soldiers together with Delta Force's veterans, were fighting for many hours. None of the Americans suspected that the enemy may appear so powerful. Many people gat killed, among them 18 American soldiers. Young boys, who have just joined the army, learn what war really is.

The film is very realistic. We empathize with the soldiers. The viewer can feel their emotions. We can see, how people loose friends, how they help each other to survive. A person watching the movie feels, as if he/she was right there, in the middle of the battlefield. the audience gets to know the soldiers- young American guys, who are not even fully aware, what they are fighting for. They are simply ordered to fight and sometimes die with honor. The camera operator- Sławomir Idziak- got a nomination to the Oscar for them. It is true, that the way he showed the action makes us feel participants of the battle. Also the special effects are amazing. And there is wonderful music, which makes you feel your emotions even stronger. In my opinion, this is one of the best movies by Ridley Scott.
