Perhaps 'Black Hawk Dawn' is not the best of American movies, but in my opinion it is one of the better. It is a pity, that so many people don't want to watch it- they say there is too much violence and blood in it. The tale is based on the book by Mark Bowen. It is a story about the military operation, organized by the American Army, in Mogadishu- Somalia's capital city- in October 1993. In this operation, 18 soldiers from American Army were killed. It was meant to be regular action of Special Forces, with the purpose of killing Mohammed Farrah Aidid, who was the dictator in the city. Nobody wanted it to become such terrible horror.
Ridley Scott- the director of the film- made the movie seem to be a documentary. The pictures are made so as to make the viewer fell as if he was within the action. There are terrible things happening all around. People kill and get killed. There is blood shed everywhere. Everyone, who saw the movie, was hardly influenced by it. The audience empathizes with the soldiers- especially with the young guy, who is dying for his country. Many of the soldiers fighting there don't realize, why they do it. They are simply told to fight and die with honor.
The movie shows us the truth about the soldiers. They are not ideal. We can see that they make mistakes, which sometimes have very bad results. It makes us believe the film even more and at the same time- we feel stronger emotions. The main character of the movie, cast by Josh Hartnett, says at one moment: "Nobody asks to be a hero. It just sometimes turns out that way." I advise everyone to watch 'Black Hawk Dawn'.
