Coronavirus pandemic What are coronaviruses? They are the type of virus which belongs to the family called Coronaviridae. They can be carried by mammals and birds. In both cases, they attack the respiratory, nervous or digestive system. We can also divide coronaviruses into two groups: animal coronaviruses and human. In the first group, we can find diseases like gastroenteritis in cattle, bronchitis in birds or pig diarrhea. In the second one, we have for example SARS, MERS, and SARS-CoV-2 which is currently threatening our planet. SARS-CoV-2 is the virus which causes the diseases called COVID-19.
It mainly attacks lungs, but it has many different symptoms like fever, dry cough, zmęczenie, muscle or joint pain, ból gardła, ból głowy. Where’s SARS-CoV-2 came from? Firstly scientists thought that the new virus came from snakes, but that wasn't true. Nowadays is said that the reason is bats. However, they did not directly transfer the coronavirus to humans. The direct reason was pangolin which has been illegally smuggling into China. Then locals have been eating its meat. Summarizing scientists think that the pangolin is the reason for the pandemic of the COVID-19. How does COVID-19 spread? As we all know, coronavirus began to spread into Wuhan. Then all of China get infected with. After that, it began to spread into other Asian countries like Thailand or Laos. Then it started to spread to Europe. Firstly Italy but, after some weeks it came to every country in Europe.
At the same time coronavirus had spread to both the Americas and Africa. Today the most amount of infections have the USA - about 450 000. Next is Spain and Italy with about 150 000. Another focal points are in Germany and France with about 120 000 infections. Why it is called pandemic? Firstly the new coronavirus was just an epidemic because it was only in China, but when it became global WHO established it as pandemic. Another reason why COVID-19 is called pandemic is low disease mortality which guarantees a higher infectious rate. Other factors facilitating the spread of the disease are for example common symptoms which are difficult to diagnose or long contagious period. It also spread that much because it stays in the air for about 6 hours and op metal for about 12 hours.
How to protect? All of us should take care of ourselves because if we get infected automatically every member of your family would have that disease. We should wash our hands after every contact with other people. We should wear masks and what is most important we should leave the house only if we have to. Coronavirus in Poland. First COVID-19 case in Poland was in Zielona Góra on 4th March 2020. From 4th March to today it increased to about 5700 infections and 175 deaths. Everyone who comes back from abroad must stay in quarantine for two weeks. On 14th March the Polish government decided to close schools. Since 18th March all of the restaurants are closed. Next, they decided to close all hairdressers and beauty salons.
The Polish government said also that since 1st people younger than 18 years old can leave home only with their parents. People under 65 have also a ban to go to the shops between 10-12 am. It is because the government wants to protect elders. They also said that all of us since after Easter must wear masks if we want to go anywhere. Sorry!
