The traditional English breakfast consists of many various dishes and is usually big. It includes eggs, mushrooms, bacon and tomatoes. Nowadays the tradition changes and people do not eat it usually. They have on breakfast just brad with jam or marmalade (which are not the same!), or cereal with milk. What is the difference between marmalade and jam? Jam may be produced from various fruits while marmalade only from oranges. During the breakfast people drink tea but also coffee or instant coffee (which is not liked by visitors to England).
The second meal during the day is usually a lunch. The English eat it in the city, place of work, school… In England cheap and good food can be bought at bars. Children can eat meal at school or bring it from their homes. Usually it is a sandwich, something to drink and some fruit. In the afternoon the English drink tea and eat a light meal: cakes or sandwiches.
The main meal of the day is usually the evening meal. It is often eaten by the whole family together. The people have it before 8 o'clock p.m.
Also on Sundays many families eat together. The traditional lunch consists of roast meat, vegetables and souse from meat juices (called gravy). The meat which is usually eaten is chicken, pork or beef.
Food coming from other countries is very popular in England. It is especially French, Chinese, Indian or Italian food. Very often people do not prepare meals at home but buy them at restaurants or bars and bring it home to eat.
