Great Britain is consisted of some countries, but the largest and the richest of them is England. Its total area is over 130 500 km2, which covers almost 57 % of the whole area of the island. England has 49 100 000 inhabitants and the main language is English of course. London is not only the capital of Great Britain, but also the main city of England. England is consisted of four regions: the south, the east, the central part and the north.

Its most famous river is The Thames, which is about 215 miles long, but the longest one is The Severn. It is 240 miles long. England's highest peak is Scafell Pike.

To the most famous places in England belong:

- The Lake District, which is a breathtaking area full of lakes and mountains. It is located in Northwest England. There is England's largest lake - Windermere,

- Stonehenge, which is the well-known prehistoric place. Some massive blocks create a circle. It is believed that the place is mysterious, because some pagan ceremonies took place there,

- also North Downs and South Downs,

In England there are many beautiful and interesting cities:

- York, which was built by the ancient Romans. There is also one of the biggest gothic cathedrals,

- Chester, where we can visit a well-known toy museum. There are few thousands ancient and modern toys. There is also the dolls' hospital, where broken dolls and teddy-bears can be restored and repaired,

- Oxford where the oldest university of England is located,

- Cambridge where the second oldest university is located.

To the England's symbols belong:

- The Red Rose

- A flag

- White color

St. George is the patron of the whole England.

There are also two personifications of England:

- The statue of Britannia - the British symbol. It has been coined on the one side of British coins. Britannia is a woman wearing a helmet and has a trident - a symbol of the rule over the seas.

- John Bull - a funny old gentleman, a star of cartoons of the nineteenth century.
