It is said that the Internet is the medium of the 21st century. It was invented in the 20th century as a network designed for the use of the U.S. Department of Defence. Soon it became an universal one. Today we can't even imagine working without this powerful invention.
The number of Internet users is still increasing and over 50% of people in the world have used the Internet at least once. Moreover, it is estimated that about 10% of global population is using the network at the moment. Everyone uses the Internet for different reason. For many people it is an essential tool at work. There is also a big number of users who communicate each other thanks to this global network. Some people think that the Internet is the only way to broaden the minds.
Today the Internet is a key service. A company which doesn't have its own homepage and doesn't advertise its services in the Internet lags behind the competition. What is more, it has a less opportunity of the further development.
The Internet gives us unlimited possibilities. It enables us to buy goods and services or to pay bills and checking our own bank accounts. Thanks to e-mails and different kind of communicators we can stay in touch with our friends no matters where they are at this moment. The communication through e-mails has replaced the traditional sending letters. The Internet is also an alternative for shy people, who are afraid of face to face contact. Trough the global network they can meet very friendly people from different parts of the world.
On the other side, there are also some negative aspects of using the Internet. Often it comes to the different kind of abuses. Movies and songs are downloaded, which is restricted by law. Porno films are spread by the Internet very fast. There is also a risk of hacking files from private computers. Viruses spread through e-mails are today plague which we aren't able to exterminate. What is more, the new addiction has recently appeared. Some people are addicted to the net and they couldn't imagine day without the connection to the Internet.
We should be aware that the Internet becomes an inseparable part of our life. Its effect on our existence and becomes more and more important for us. It is an endless source of information and soon it replaced all other mediums.
