It is 6 a.m.: so wake-up call, a quick shower, a cup of coffee, cloths: a stiff collar and a grey suit and then a briefcase. Quickly to work and stay there about eight or ten hours. At work: a fake smile on the face and sit quietly in front of computer's screen. A short business lunch with the potential client instead of breakfast. And after the lunch: again lots of numbers, which should be concluded in a logical conclusion. They will be a long-term prediction. After work the one can go home: angry with a careless driver, without any joy of life and lack of energy and vitality with the huge desire to rest in peace. Instead of rest, analysis of the exchange quotation. Then the fast dinner. Short shower and bed. Sleep till 6 a.m. It is a daily routine.
Stress, rivalry and a terrible headache about ten hours a day for six days per week. It's time to stop! Why should I do it? Oh, for money. But I don't want anything. I have many things such as a university degree, great position in the management, authority and social status. Each thing was very expensive and every of them were booked for "upper classes". But are all these things really necessary? Did I fell satisfied when I achieved them? I think that you can buy the university degree, but you buy just a piece of paper. The knowledge is the thing you can't buy. I'm aware that every qualification, even the one on the paper, better the chance of receiving a new job. Without proper qualification, it would be very difficult to prove their own skills. Every one of us seems to be different. Not everybody may become Einstein, but we can try to develop our own talents. I think that it is very unfair to buy any university's degree. In spite of the fact that it would give you a better perspective of finding a job. We should be ourselves, instead of pretending geniuses.
Another example of unfair purchases may be some authorities' decisions. Thanks to them a company may easily win a tender. What can you give the fraud? I think that only more power and money. Is money and power the most important things worth fighting for and cheating for? Sometimes a young man, who is thought to be successful, has high social position, two cars, a big villa and some "friends", who are ready to leave him, when he fails, once he finds out that he doesn't have any life's goals and any close person. He realizes that his whole life is meaningless. He notices that every material thing he has already achieved. He belongs to the most powerful and the richest people and he finds out that he has noting important. He is the same person, but he isn't happier. He has everything he wants and much more duties... In spite of the fact that he has much money and he can buy almost every material thing, but not everything can be bought. The most important things in life are priceless. Health, friendship, love, peace and happiness can't be bought. We should learn how to appreciate every little thing we have. There were a lot of people, who didn't care about the material things. They thought about the sense of living, faith and souls. They were: Saint Frank, George Byron, Oscar Wilde and more.
Saint Frank when was young, he was very rebellious, but he was very generous for everyone, especially for poor people. He suffered form serious illnesses and he gave the poor people every goods. Then he became a tutor. He decided to propagate the philosophy full of love, peace and hope. He thought that soul was created for love and joyful. Saint Frank didn't tell about any material goods. He became a happy beggar.
Lord George Gordon Byron didn't care about material things and money. He wasted a lot of money that he had inherited. Then he even ran in debt. Byron wasn't only a genius poet, but also he became a rebel and was scandalous. His favourite activates were parties, meetings, travels, sports and love affairs. He also was a participant of Greeks' uprising against Turks. He lost his wife during that uprising. Byron died, while he was fighting to protect his beliefs. He wasn't quite happy. He led carefree life and spent his money on everything he wanted.
Oscar Wilde reminds Lord Byron in his interests in partying, meeting, travelling and love affairs. He claimed that modern young people thought only about money. Wilde didn't depend on getting money. He did everything he wanted. They didn't care for money. He was complied with his conscience.
These great people were led by their emotions and ideas. They were young, so they didn't find money the most important. They didn't sacrifice themselves for getting a lot of money. They were looking for the real meaning of life and they forgot about material things and senseless of lives. They did what they wanted to do.
What about modern people? I think we are divided into some groups. Some of us want to be extremely rich. The others don't care for the wealthy. There is also the other group of people who are happy. They don't care about many things and don't have too much money. However, they don't take part in the rat race. Such people are humanists. They usually graduated studies and they are got a well-paid job. But they had chosen something they love: history, art, archaeology, teaching, theology and poetry. Most of these people are aware that money can't bring the happiest and some of them decide to lose a well-paid job and do something they want. They admire sunset, red and yellow leaves in the autumn. They want to dignify the other people and stop them in their way to gaining the wealth. Humanists don't lose their real meaning of things, which are important in people lives. They don't want only to become rich. They know that the most important are their own happiness, national culture, history, art, literature, beauty and dreams. What is more, rich people aren't romantic, because they don't have any time for these romantic things. Humanists don't believe in wealth. They are looking for happiness, respect, solidarity and tolerance. They aren't looking for success and money. They said that rich people are selfish and too busy. Rich are said to look down on nay other people.
I think that especially young people want to be rich and have a lot of money. Young students start to work in big companies. They start their work very early and end it late in the night. Couple years ago dormitories of Polish students were places full of fun, pleasure, dances and joy. Today they are quite. Students start working or learn in their rooms in quiet. Today the age of twenty years old is time to have a permanent job and know what to do in the future. If they don't decide to find a job earlier, at the age of 25 years old will be too late. A lot of students run after their lectures to work and they stay there for the rest of the day. They want to earn some money and the promotion. Young people should be always smiling and full of creative ideas. Most of them can afford their own flat at the age of twenty four. They want to earn a lot of money and forget about everything. Unfortunately, they forget about their young years. Soon at the age of thirty years old they realized that they achieved everything and they are completely burnt out. In their way to career they forget about personal happiness and friends. They found out that someone younger receives their post. Today young people scarify their youth and work for international companies. Young people also find out that they are lonely and they don't have anyone special in their arms. So they notice that the sum on their account isn't so important. It seems that they lose too much to gain too little. Is it worth?
Unfortunately, today William Shakespeare's saying: "To be or not to be?" turned into the modern saying: "To be or to have?". If someone ask me what the most important for me is, I will definitely answer: "To be!". I think that money isn't a permanent value. One day we have it, the next day we lost it. So dying to get a huge sum of money is for me senseless. On the other hand, it is very difficult to live without money, but consider money as the most important value in our life is a big mistake. Remember money isn't everything. I hope young people will understand it. It isn't worthy to scarify our young life to work so hard and so long. There are much important values in our lives such as friendship, love and family.
