Art is a part of the culture. Thanks to the art people discover their talents and effects of their activities are admired by other people. To the art belong paintings, buildings, sculptures, movies, stage plays and music. Today the definition of art has changed a little bit. Sometimes a work is called to be artistic, but for many traditional people it isn't like the real art.
To the splendid works of art belong such works as heroic sculptures of Michael Angel, Rubens's paintings and works of Picasso. Today they are admired and are known as the finest works ever created. But in the past most of them weren't thought to be the masterpieces. Some artists created a lot of works, which weren't regarded as the art in full meaning. Often they died forgotten and lonely, but their works remain and after their deaths they were recognised as masterpieces. Today there are a lot of controversial works, for example Katrzyna Kozyra's "Pyramid of Animals". Her work is consisted of some stuffed animals such as a dog, a cat, a horse and a rooster. It is very controversial, because there is attached a video record of creating this work, when the horse was put down.
Modern artist try to overdo one another at creating more controversial works. Their main goal is to shock the public and show some cruelties and atrocities. The more controversial the work is, the better the response. Most of us disapprove such a kind of art, but we are forced to reflection. We think about death and sense of life. The art should be the creation, rather than the destruction. Personally I don't like these scary forms in the paintings. I'm afraid of these strange shapes, shades and dark colours. But in fact "Pyramid of Animals" is controversial and scary, but in the same way it is scheme-breaking.
The other scandalous work was sculpture "Pasja" by Dorota Nieznalska. When it was exhibited, a big scandal took place. The sculpture shows the cross and crucified Jesus Christ with the attached picture of male genitals. The artist was accused of offending some religious beliefs. We should be aware that art has its own rules and sometimes it may be controversial.
The other controversial kind of art is graffiti. Since ages people have used to write and paint surrounding walls. In prehistorical times they used to paint signs and pictures on the walls of caves. The Romans used to write on the buildings of conquered towns. They called it graffiti and today the signs on the walls are also called that. But today graffiti is considered to be a form of art, because talent, idea and some artistic elements are required. Some people disapprove graffiti, because they think that it is a form of vandalism, which deserve to be punished. But I think that the real graffiti may be a kind of decoration. These colourful paintings make our cities happier.
In my opinion, today people are looking for sensation and want to break with convention. They need something new, controversial and surprising. I think that new trends in art will appear and it is something unavoidable.
