Nowadays, graffiti is considered a form of art. However, at the beginning it was not the same. At the end of 1970s, in Mew York young people started to write slogans and different names on the walls. You could see it in subways and in poor districts of the city. Some of the 'paintings' were political, some were simply expressions of young people's thoughts. Much has changed from that moment. Today we can see graffiti in numerous places. In general, people who listen to hip-hop and make this kind of music do the graffiti. Hip-hop, as well as graffiti, was at the beginning characteristic for people form different ghettos from the cities in the USA. Afro-Americans, who lived in the poorest parts of the cities, started to sing about their lives and they also started to paint on the walls. They wanted to get to know others, how they feel, whet they think. They wanted to bee heard and seen. Nowadays, the hip-hop bands are popular all around the world and graffiti is considered the kind of modern art.
In contemporary world there are many places, where people can make graffiti. There are many destroyed and deserted buildings and factories. People painting graffiti can make them look much better and more cheerful. There are many people, who hate people making graffiti and say that they are hooligans. It is not true. It happens that some groups paint bad words or paint the buildings where other live, but they have reason. No one gives them places, where they could paint freely. Instead of complaining, we should rather organize special places and walls for graffitists.
