Grzegorz Turnau was born in Cracow, on 31st July 1967. He is considered great pianist, composer and singer. He was a member of the popular cabaret from Krakow.
As a child, Grzegorz attended music school. He learned to play piano. He didn't complete the school, as he went to England. He spent one year there. He was a student of the 5th LO in Krakow. After the high school, he studied at the Jagiellonian University in the department of English Philology. Unfortunately, he quit the studies before graduation. Instead of studying, he chose being an artist. He performed at the well known cabaret- Piwnica pod Baranami.
Already as a child, Grzegorz showed his interests in music as well as the great talent. It is said that as a two year old child, he was able to sing popular hits very clearly. At the age of seventeen, he joined the group Piwnica pod Baranami. For several years he was the youngest artist there. Grzegorz Turnau says that this was a place of great importance for him. His music adventure started there. What is more- this is where he met Maryna Barfuss- his wife.
The his first longplay- "Against the Light"- appeared in 1993. I short time it became the real hit. His longplays were awarded different prizes in Poland. What makes him special is that his songs are based on beautiful lyrics. Many of them are poems of famous polish poets (Gałczyński, Szymborska, Tuwim). The other were written by a very talented writer, Michal Zablocki.
Grzegorz Turnau doesn't want other to know much about his family. His fans know that he is married and has a daughter. He has a house on the countryside and an apartment in Krakow.
In my opinion, Grzegorz is both great artist and wonderful man. I am sure that people will remember him and his music for a long time.
