It is important to be aware that the changes in atmosphere, which are now happening may have serious effects on our lives. We may notice, that the weather is more and more unpredictable. The reasons for this are numerous. Most general is the growing pollution of the air. It causes the greenhouse effect and makes the atmosphere warmer. The meteorologists and other experts discuss these issues and wonder, how to prevent too strong changes of climate on the world. They claim that each government should prepare special plans, how to face different weather conditions. The weather on the northern part of Earth is going to become more rainy. The southern part is going to get drier. What does it mean for us? It means that we may expect large floods on the north and severe droughts in the south. The water, which was stored in the mountain glaciers in Europe, will run off, causing extensive floods. All glaciers and icebergs are going to disappear and the areas of tundra will no linger exist. The levels of all seas is going to get higher. It is estimated that in 50 years, the level of the Mediterranean Sea will be 0,5 meter higher. It is dangerous for the animals living in the sea as well as for the birds. It is possible that this may cause great floods on some areas. The scientists say that the average temperature on Earth is going to rise- it will be 6 degrees higher than it is now. It is important to notice, that together with these changes, the political geography of the world will be much different.
Most severely, as always, will suffer the poor people living on large rural areas. When the climate changes the conditions of living in Africa, people from this continent will migrate. It may happen that the diseases, which are now so problematic in Africa, will spread and cause epidemics in the other parts of the world.
Some specialists claim that global warming is only a short-term effect of the changes of climate. In further future, this is supposed to change into global cooling. However, it may happen no sooner than in 200-300 years time. It is important to remember that the predictions made by scientists does not take into account all the factors influencing the weather. We cannot say definitely, how the urbanization of the world is going to proceed and what will be the effects of it on the climate of the world.
In my opinion, too few people are really interested in this case. Most of us don't know, what global warming means and how severe the effects of it may be. Nevertheless, most people noticed that there are some weather phenomena, which were not so common previously. Although we have good instruments, we are not able to predict and defend ourselves from the natural disasters.
