Thinking about the authors of the detective stories, we always remind Agatha Christie. She is considered the best writer of this kind of stories ever. The stories about Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple are famous all around the world. There is one think that bothers the fans of Agatha Christie- what happened in her life, when she suddenly disappeared in December 1926???
Agatha Christie was born in Devon in England, in September 1890. As a 24-year-old woman, she married Colonel Archibald Christie. The first detective story that she wrote appeared on the market in 1920. It was a great success.
But Agatha was not a very happy woman. Her private life was not as successful as her career. Her unhappy marriage ended in December 1926, when she left her husband. She escaped from the home in the car during the night. The police started to look for her. They discovered the empty car left in the forest, but the writer was not there. After two days the police made an announcement that they had now idea of where she was. She tried to hide from the world in a small hotel in Yorkshire, but the waiter revealed her secret. Her husband came to take her back home 12 days after she disappeared. Agatha Christie and her husband divorced in 1927. She never told anyone, why she wanted to escape and what she wanted to do. Some say that she was depressed and wanted to kill herself. Others claim that she wanted to prove her husband that she didn't love him anymore. But perhaps she just wanted people to get interested in her in order to sell more books?
She remarried in 1930 to Sir Max Mallowan. He was a hard-working archeologist and she could dedicate herself to writing her novels. In her whole life, she managed to write over 80 detective stories. She sold more than 300 million books. But the secret of her disappearance in 1926 remains unknown.
