Dear Agnieszka
I'm writing this letter to say you that I'm very sorry that I missed your birthday party. I really wanted to come and, actually, I was on my way to your house. I didn't get there because I had a car accident. I was taken to hospital and that's where I'm now writing from.
When I was walking to the bus stop to catch bus 23, suddenly I heard a squeal of tyres and a shining red convertible stopped just behind my back. The driver of the car turned out to be Marek-a friend of mine. He told me that he had got that brand new car for his eighteenth birthday from his parents and offfered to give me a lift. That was very convenient for me and I found myself sitting next to Marek in his car. When I started fastening my seatbelt and asked why he hadn't fastened his, Marek laughted and told me that he never did it. The car was very fast and Marek made full use of the power of its engine. The road was very slippery and it started to snow-I was aware that those conditions weren't good for fast driving. I knew Marek was just showing off and told him to slow down because I don't like such stupid bravado. But he speeded up and smiled at me triumphantly. I got so irritated that I said I wanted to get off and take a bus. He didn't want to stop and we started quarreling. And, suddenly, that woman appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the road. Marek started breaking hard but the car got into a skid and it turned around two times on the slippery road before crashing into a tree. That's all I can remember now because I lost my consciousness. My mum told me that someone had called an ambulance and both Mark and I had been taken to hospital. The doctor says I'll have to stay here for 5 or 6 more days because I had concussion and they want to keep me under observation. Besides, my right arm is broken, I have some scratches on my face and a minor head injury. I feel quite well but Marek is really lucky to be still alive-he has both legs and four ribs broken, he sustained multiple internal injuries and had concussion as well. He regained his consciousness only yesterday.
Now you see why I didn't come to your party and didn't even give you a call. I hope we'll meet after my leaving hospital.
Love
Tomek
