My favourite book is "Macbeth" by William Shakespeare. The main character of the book, Macbeth, is a very interesting man. I will tell you something more about him.

The book starts when Macbeth won a battle against a dangerous foe. It was a splendid victory. Then he walked with his friend Banquo and encountered three old women. They were witches and they had strange dresses. They started talking to Macbeth and announced him that he would be the king of Scotland. Macbeth was Thane of Glamis at that time. He immediately informed his wife about the prophecy but also about his new title and the victory. In the letter he also wrote that the King of Scotland himself would visit their castle and asked his wife to make preparations. The wife of Macbeth was a very ambitious person and she immediately started imaging herself as the Queen of Scotland. She was fascinated with this possibility and decided to do everything to become the queen. Apart from being ambitious she was also very cruel and could do everything in order to realise her goals. Macbeth could become the Kings after the death of the current king and lady Macbeth decided to shorten his life. She did not want to leave the improvement in her status in the hands of fate.

She knew that her husband would not be determined enough to act in order to satisfy his ambitions. Therefore she worked veer hard to persuade him to realise her plan. She wanted to kill Duncan, the king of Scotland, during his visit in their castle. She believed that it would be a very easy way to obtain the crown, which would make them happy. Macbeth was split between his loyalty to the king and his ambition. It was a terrible battle inside his mind. The king was always good for him. The battle was eventually won by his ambition, mainly because of the encouragement of his wife. When Duncan was sleeping in their castle they stabbed him with daggers. Then Lady Macbeth framed the guards into the murder. She put the dagger near them and placed the blood of the king on their faces. Macbeth was terrified and he was in shock after his deed.

The wife and the husband differed in their view of the killing of the king. For Lady Macbeth it was nothing, a small obstacle on the road to becoming the queen that should be eliminated. For Macbeth it was a tragedy and he could not recover from it. The first crime gave birth to another and another. In the morning when the body of the king was found, Macbeth ordered the two guards to be killed. Eventually the prophecy of the witches was fulfilled. He became the king. But there was another prophecy that Macbeth was worried about. The children of Banquo would rule Scotland in the end, not his own children. In order to prevent this from happening he decided to kill Banquo and his son. However, he did not managed to kill them both; the son survived and escaped. The rest of the reign of Macbeth was the same as the beginning: it was bloody and full of terror. The people were oppressed and many of them fled the country. In England Prince Malcolm was gathering his army to march to Scotland and get rid of the tyrant. Macbeth was constantly worried about the future. He committed one violent deed after another, all because of the witches, his wife and his lack of strong will to oppose them. His life was cursed. He died in battle, and the prophecy of the witches that he would be defeated when the forest would come to the walls of the castle was fulfilled. Soldiers of Malcolm took branches from trees and under their cover approached the castle. It looked as if the forest was moving. Lady Macbeth was also killed. In the end the son of Banquo became the king of Scotland.
