The death penalty is a very controversial problem and there are many people who are for or against it. Opponents of a capital punishment say that it is a very cruel practice and none can decide if someone should live or not. They think that death is a natural consequence of birth and that this is a law to which all human beings are submitted.
Many people are against the capital punishment because of ethical reasons, which are usually connected with their religion. For example Christians think that killing people is against God and his rules. They prefer a life-sentence. Some people also think that the death penalty is very barbaric and if we are for that issue, we behave the same like criminals.
But there are also many people who think that the death penalty is necessary and it shouldn't be forbidden. According to them it is a good deterrent which is shown by a small crime rate in countries where a capital punishment is legal. They also say that criminals should suffer just like their victims and a life-sentence is too less for them. In jails they have work, a place to sleep or even a special rooms to spend their free time. They fell like in a heaven. A lot of people think that it shouldn't be like that and maybe that's why they sometimes become supporters of the death penalty.
In my opinion the death penalty is a good punishment but only for murderers, especially cruel ones. But I must say that I think that it is such an important problem that everyone should decide by himself if he or she is for or against the capital punishment.
