Do you remember your parents warning you against talking to a stranger? I think that we all know that we should be careful before we will trust somebody who is completely unknown. But, on the other hand, it is not easy and very often we forget about it. When you are a child you will easly trust somebody who will give you a sweet. When you are an adult you will trust somebody who will smile to you. I think that people are simply not thinking about bad things when they meet new person. We always take a risk by trusting somebody but it is necessary in order to make new friends. However, sometimes it may cause a lot of problems and even a disaster. This is what happened to me a long time ago.
It was a summer five years ago. It was a hot day but it looked like a storm. About one month earlier I got a motorbike driving licence. My parents bought me a motorbike for my 20 th birthday. I knew that it was a big effort for them and that riding a motorbike could be very dangerous. That is why I was very careful. I was wondering if to ride a motorbike that night because of weather. Everybody who had ever ridden a motorbike knew that the wet surfice is not safe. It is easy to cause an accident than. But after all I decided to take my new motorbike. I went to meet my friends to the disco. We were talking as usual but this time the new girls joined us at the table. We started to chat. One of them was very talkative and loud but the other one was very nice and quiet. I prefered the shy one. We were talking about my motorbike. I was very proud of it and she seemed charmed by the fact that I can drive it. She asked me if a could take her on a ride. Of course I agreed but I told her that it is not a good time because it is late and it was going to rain. But she insisted. Eventually I agreed. We went out from the disco. I was just about to start the motorbike when she asked if she could drive. I was cmpletely stunned.
I was so surprised by the question that I didn't know what to say. I had never lent my motorbike to anybody. Besides I had just met her. I didn't know if she could drive a motorbike. I didn't know anything about her. The one thing I was sure was her name - Kate. This motorbike was my most precious thing. But Kate was smiling to me so beautifully. She started to beg me. She said that her brother had a motorbike and that she could drive it. However, I was steadfast when she was just about to cry I have agreed. In the same moment I regreted that.
She took her place. I sitt behind her. I was very nervoused. She started the motorbike and we moved. Firstly, we were going very slowly. She was very careful, so I breathed a sigh of relief. And it was my mistake.
Suddenly, she started to go faster and faster. I couldn't say a word. I knew that this was my last ride by a motorbike. The road was wet, it had to rain there earlier. She was going far too fast. I prayed for a quick death. I saw a sharp bend in front of us. Kate didn't slow down. I closed my eyes. Just round the corner she started to brake but it was too late. The road was very slippery. I remember a terrible roar.
I don't know how long I was unconscious. There was nobody around us, no people, no cars, no houses. We were alone. I looked at Kate, she was all in blood. I couldn't say a word. I couldn't move. I didn't feel my legs and my arms. I thought that because of my stupidity Kate is dead and I will be dead because I can't call for help. I couldn't believe what had happened. I tried to move my arms and legs. Suddenly I noticed Kate started to move. I called her. She didn't respond. I moved my arms. I tried to crowl towords Kate. She was alive and that was the most important. I needed to call for help. I managed to sit down and to take out my cell phone. I called my father. My leg was hurting, it was broken. But Kate was all in blood. I tried to move her, but she was groaning with every move so I decided not to touch her. After some time I saw my father's car and an ambulance just after him. They took us to the hospital. It tourned out that my leg was broken and I had some minor emorrhage. I had to stay in hospital for another three days. As for Kate, she had broken two legs and she had spain damage but she recovered. I knew because I asked about her everyday until she was OK. I have never felt more responsible for other person. She could be dead because of me. I should have never trusted her.
The motorbike was completely broken. I sold some parts of it and since that night I had never ridden a motorbike. I had almost killed myself and the other person. Although that was not me who was driving it was all my fault. I wish I had never ever met Kate. I hope that she had a lesson, too.
Now I know that we should't trust people who we just met. It doesn't matter if they are nice, look trustful and they have got the most beautiful smile in the world. We should be very careful because otherwise we may pay far too much.
