Poland became a member country of the European Union on 1st May 2004. In our country people keep on discussing, if the access to EU was advantageous or disadvantageous for our country and us-its citizens. In my opinion, it was a good thing and I will try to prove it.
Firs of all, Polish people have now a chance to look for a job not only in Poland, but in many member countries as well. Young people can go to schools abroad, get new experiences and develop their skills and abilities. Considering the high rate of unemployment in Poland, it is a really good thing that we can find a job in other countries.
Moreover, the trade marked became bigger and many companies and corporations from Poland have a chance to join international market. They may develop and Polish products may become recognizable in many countries. The competition on this market encourages the producers to improve the quality of their products.
However, being a member of the EU, Poland got many new obligations and rules, which are sometimes difficult to fulfill and to follow. It is important to watch out our economy, so as not o get into even deeper crisis.
Summing up, in my opinion being a member country of the EU is profitable for Poland. We have an opportunity to develop and we have to take advantage from it.
