There are different kinds of addictions. Most popular are three- alcoholism, taking drugs and smoking cigarettes.

CONSEQUENCES OF ADDICTIONS

All addictions can be a cause of different illnesses. They are dangerous for health and may cause death. It also happens that addictions destroy family life or professional career. They make a person unable to work and are reasons to conflicts with family members and friends.

WHY SO MANY YOUNG PEOPLE GET ADDICTED?

Some teenagers think that they will become mature when they smoke cigarettes. When a young girl wants to be thin, she can smoke instead of eat. Many people begin smoking because they are very stressed. Boredom and problems can lead to smoking as well. Those who smoke say that it helps them cheer up.

Nowadays teenagers frequently take drugs. They are not satisfied with their lives and look for new adventures and experiences. They think that taking drugs will help them find the sense of living. After taking a drug they feel relaxed and happy, so they don't realize how dangerous it is to get addicted.

HOW TO PREVENT PEOPLE FROM GETTING ADDICTED?

Quitting bad habits is very difficult. The best way to overcome this problem is not to begin smoking, drinking or taking drugs at all. If someone is already addicted, they need to be very strong and determined to quit. Even if they succeed and stop doing this, they can never be certain that the addiction will not come back. Young people should be better educated about the results of addictions. There ought to be more books and films about the dangers caused by alcohol, drugs or cigarettes. If people were well informed by doctors teachers and others about all threats of addictions, they would probably be more careful and not become addicted so often.
