There is a place on Earth, which I fing most wonderful and where I always want to come back. It is Stonehenge- the most significant and the greatest od British monuments.
Stonehenge consists on many enomously large stones. It is situated on the south of England, on Salisburg Plain. The scientists say that it was built about 4000 years ago. They believe that Stonehenge looked almost the same as it looks today.
The stones make two big circles- one inside the other. The 'circle' inside has a shape of the horseshoe. All around the monument there is a deep ditch.
The stones are said to be 50 tonnes havy. These stones must have been brought to this place from 30 km apart.
Although hundereds of scientists worked on descovering the true history of Stonehenge, they were not able to estimate, when exactly it was buit. They suppose, that it used to be a temple, where ancient people used to pray the sun. The stone in a very centre is said to have been an altar. There is also another possibility. Stonehenge may have been used as the observatory point for astronoms. Perhaps they were observing the movement of sun and stars?
I was really amazed and astonished by this place. I felt supernatural power there. I will certainly go there again.
