The number of teenagers who have mobile phones increases. However, I think that sometimes they do not really need the telephones they buy. As everything, the mobile phones have advantages and disadvantages. If used correctly, mobile phones are very useful. However, if somebody use them too much they can be a problem, because of costs.
When parents buy a mobile phone for their child, they usually do it to be in contact with him or her. They think that the children will be safer because of that. If something happens, they can immediately call and inform the parents. It is especially useful when the children go somewhere in the evening or they have a long way to school. The parents feel calm when they know they can contact their child anytime. Mobile phones are also a time-saver because of the ability of calling from any place.
These were the advantages of mobile phones. But they have disadvantages too. The main one is their cost. They are parents who usually buy the phone and they also pay the bills. If the child use his or her phone too much, not realising that this is expensive, it can lead to quarrels. The phone may be a time-saver in some situations, but it is also a great time-eater. Some people waste much time calling and sending SMSs.
I think that mobile phones are very good tool but we must learn how to use them and do not cause problems. The bad situations are usually the result of somebody's irresponsibility. It is also bad when somebody is addicted to his or her phone.
