The Lake District is a great place for those of you who like water sports. The numerous lakes and rivers offer a place for all kinds of such activities. The people who come here may choose from a variety of sport activities. Wind surfing, sailing, water-skiing and canoeing - there is a possibility to practice each one of them. Clean water of the Mazurian lakes is teeming with life. Fishermen may find there all kinds of fishes they would expect to be there. The lavaret, bream, eels, crucian carp or bleak - they are all there.
On the ground, the tourists can wander through huge forests. There are many occasions to observe animals in their natural environment. Mazurian forests are home to many rarely seen animals, for example: wolves, lynx, cranes, elk, deer and ruffs. Those who want to can take part in a hunting expedition. For people who do not enjoy such activities there is a chance of going for a bloodless photo-safari. Bird watchers will find many opportunities to practice their hobby. Parks and reserves protect the most beautiful parts of the region.
The Northeast Poland is an attractive place during the whole year. You can spend both summer and winter in Mrągowo. The region offers many attractions: a visitor can sail in a boat on Mazurian Lakes, make a short ride in a canoe on a river or go on a long cruise across the Vistula Bay. Many historical monuments and town can be visited along the way making the visitor aware of the history of the region. For nature-lovers there are numerous nature reserves to visit. The evenings may be spent around a campfire: singing and roasting sausages.
The region is attractive in other seasons as well. In autumn the hunting season starts and hunters would find a numerous game in the local forest. Those who do not enjoy it can walk in the forests. Apart of beautiful sight of colourful trees, woods offer large quantities of fruits and mushroom to be picked up. Winters on Mazurian Lakes are a perfect season for all amateurs of winter sports. The people who enjoy ice-skating, skiing and ice boating would find this region a perfect place for practising those sports. These features were appreciated by organisers of ice boating championship and skating marathon in 1984.
Besides the beauty of nature and numerous ways of spending active holidays on Mazurian Lakes, the region offer vast number of cultural attractions. From historical monuments, museums and other places connected with Polish history to various cultural events. A visitor would certainly enjoy many festivals and competitions: Festival of Sung Poetry and Dancing Competition in Olsztyn, The Country Picnic in Mrągowo and many other.
