On a sunny summer day, Jacinto and Placido, two boys from Guyana took their pirogue and went fishing. This time they wanted to go further down the river, where there are more fish. They knew that the river was dangerous, but they did not know exactly why.

They enjoyed their trip and watched the wildlife. They stopped at a little island, had some fresh fruit and walked on its sandy beach. The island looked safe and they thought they would come there again soon. It was getting hot, so they continued their journey. Rowing was very easy, the boat was going very fast and suddenly they saw why. They could also see why the river was dangerous, as there was a waterfall ahead of them. This looked like the end of their journey and a deadly trap.

Suddenly the boat hit an underwater rock, changed direction ad was drifted to the riverbank. A long and tiring way back home awaited Jacinto and Placido, but they were lucky to be alive.
