People want to travel to the different places in various part of the world. At their very beginning of mankind people wanted to know what there were outside the place where they lived. At first they started to travel on foot. Then they travelled on backs of such animals as horses, donkeys, camels or elephants. It was depended on place where they used to live. Then thanks to the development appeared many other means of transport. Today there is the variety of vehicles which are used to move from one place to another. We ride bicycles, motorbikes, cars, planes, trains and ships. If you plan the long-distant-trip, the best means of transport will be probably the plane. Travelling by plane is very comfortable and quick. On the other hand, it may be very expensive. Today it is very popular mean of transport and almost everyone likes it. People always dreamt about flying. Today their dreams came true: people may fly. It is possible since the first plane was invented. Firstly, people flew above their own cities and then they flew abroad. The greatest achievement was the flight form Europe to America over the ocean. It seems that planes are present in our everyday lives. They are the most convenient mean of transport. Some people are afraid of flaying, because they think it is very dangerous. When they hear about any crashes on news, they decide not to get in a plane. However, the planes are the safest and the fastest way of travelling.
Another way of travelling is a ship. It is very nice to sail on the board of a ship. It may take a lot of time, but it gives also many opportunities to see interesting places and spend time in the nice way. Travelling by ship is very expensive and time consuming. On the other hand, there are a lot of attractions on the shipboard. The passengers may swim in the pools on the ship's deck, spend time in cafes or restaurants or dance in discos.
Cars, buses and trains are quite common means of transport. Travelling by coach is quite cheap, but it may be very inconvenient. It is also very boring. For people who like visiting beautiful places and aren't afraid of long journeys, travelling by car may be a good alternative. Tourists who travel by car are very independent and they may range their trips in the way they like. Some people, on the other hand, love riding bicycles to keep a very close contact with nature and be fit.
A lot of young people one of the most convenient way of travelling may be the hitch-hiking. It may be very enjoyable, funny and excited. Sometimes it may be very dangerous, but also very interesting.
There are many modern transport means and our world is getting smaller. We have a lot of opportunities to visit foreign countries, learn about exotic cultures and find interesting people from different countries. You can choose among the variety of alternatives: if you want to travel and don't spend a huge sum of money, you may travel by bike or on foot. Whereas you want to travel fast or comfortable, you may choose a plane or a sea ship.
For many of us travelling to the mountains seems to be one of the most poplar holiday activities. Mountains are attractive not only in summer, but also in winter. It is said that mountains have an amazing atmosphere: once when you decide to go there, you will probably fall in love with the mountains and you will come back there every year. In summer there are a lot of things to do such as walking, climbing or admiring the breathtaking landscapes. In winter, on the other hand, there is always a lot of snow. It is a great place for every ski lover. Moreover, the mountains seem to be much more dangerous in winter. Sometimes the avalanches may appear, so we should be very careful. Everyone can find something interesting in the mountains in winter. There are some people who claim that winter are the most beautiful when they are covered with snow. The other people repeat that the mountains are amazing in autumn. The colours of tree leaves are various then. They may be golden, yellow, brown or green. I think that mountains are beautiful in every season. Every one who visits it probably won't regret.
There is also a huge group of people who love spending their holidays at the seaside. Sea is the most beautiful during summer. At holiday people have a lot of interesting things to do. Most of tourists spend their free time on the beach laying, sunbathing or swimming in the sea. The most important thing when you are going to the seaside is the weather. When there is warm and sunny weather, the climate at the sea side is unbelievable. Spending time at the seaside may give a lots pleasure. What is more, swimming may be very enjoyable. On the other hand, it may be also dangerous. Especially, when the wind and weaves are strong. For your own security it strongly advice to swim in the areas secured by lifeguards. Another dangerous thing connected with holidays at the seaside may be a long sunbathing. Some of us seem to be addicted to sunbathing and they may spend hours laying on the sun. However, it may be extremely dangerous. It may cause sun burns. There are also some people who think that sunbathing is boring. For these who love sports there are a lot of possibilities such as playing volleyball or other beach games. Sunbathing during playing volleyball is much safer. Children love building castles form sand. Adults like walking through the shore and admiring the huge sea. In the evenings there are a lot of possibilities to spend free time. Tourists may go to cafes or discos. Another people love sitting on the beach, singing songs and roasting sausages and potatoes.
Today a lot of people decide to go abroad to spend holiday. Tourists are curious the foreign culture and countries. However, abroad trips may require many arrangements. First of all, we should have a valid passport or other document if we want to visit another European country. If you want to go to an European country, you don't need to have a visa. However, it is an essential point if you want to go to the Sates or Canada. The knowledge of foreign language may be very helpful in communicating abroad. I think that the knowledge of English may be enough to be understood abroad.
Some people want to spend their holidays in exotic countries in Africa or Asia. In Africa tourists may take part in the safari trip which probably is a very unforgettable experience. The ones who want to spend a peaceful holiday choose the stay in hotels, which are very comfortable and well-equipped. The most popular destinations of Polish tourists are Italy, France, Croatia or Spain. During our stay abroad, we may learn a lot of interesting things. We may learn about completely foreign culture and their customs. Sometimes tourists may be quite shocked, but I think that the experience will be unbelievable and tourist won't be disappointed. On the other hand, the trip to the foreign countries may be very expensive, so not many people may afford such a trip. However, I think that it is worth saving some money to go and take the time of our lives! We will remain the holiday for the rest of our lives.
There are some important tips for the travellers:
- In French cafes guests can't sit down until they haven't shaken their hands with everyone at the table.
- In Afghanistan you have to spend at least ten minutes saying "hello" to everyone.
- In Pakistan beware of winking. It may be offensive.
- If you go to the Middle East you can't use your left hand for eating, drinking, greeting or smoking. You can't admire things in your hosts' house. They will be confused and think that they should give the things to you.
- In Russia you have to host your neighbours for drink. Otherwise they may think that you aren't friendly.
- In the States you have to eat your hamburgers using both hands and do it as quickly as you can. You shouldn't start any conversation until the hamburgers are eaten.
- "When in Rome, do as the Romans do."
