I think that the strangest dish I have ever eaten was the kangaroo meat. But the funniest thing concerning this event is that I have never visited Australia and the place where I tried this strange dish was South Africa. It was exactly in Tunisia.
Couple years ago I spent my summer holiday in Djerba. It is Tunisia's island. I went to Djerba with my family.
We were accommodated in the luxurious hotel called "Dar Kayam". Since we arrived I felt in love with that place. It was just gorgeous! The hotel looked like a huge palace. There were some different restaurants and bars. What is more, there was the fitness club and swimming pool. Outside the hotel there an amazing garden full of orange, lemon trees and palms.
Every evening we were served the official supper. It was the buffet in the Swedish style. So every guest could try everything he wanted. The variety of dishes was amazing. They smelled and looked very tasty. I wanted to try everything and I didn't know from with which dish I had to start.
That evening I tried so many dishes that I didn't know what I had on my plate. A couple of times I had to ask the waiter what kind of meat I had put on my plate. He really tried to explain what I was eating, but his language skills weren't enough to understand the names of dishes. I managed to understand something about meat of snake or kangaroo. I had tried the snake meat in a Chinese restaurant, but kangaroo meat was something new…
That seemed to be a completely new taste. I really liked it. The kangaroo meet is dry, so it needs to be chewed. It had brown colour and it didn't look as tasty as it really was. It was delicious! My family who also decide to try it confirmed my opinion.
After the main meal the various sweets were served. The dessert was consisted of different kinds of cakes and fruits. But I was so full that couldn't eat anything more. Today I think that it was pity that I didn't try any of those delicious desserts. They looked amazing!
After the holiday when I came back home I was scared when I discovered that I had put on weight over two kilos. But I wasn't depressed because of that fact. The food was so fantastic and definitely worth trying.
