A lot of us think that the Internet belongs to the most important tools which help gaining the knowledge. On the other hand, there are many opponents who blame the Internet for making us addicted. I would like to focus on the pros and cons of using the Internet.
Thanks to the Internet we can find almost all information. It is said if something can't be found in the Internet, it won't be found anywhere else. The process of searching is easy and quickly. Such portals as "YAHOO" or "AltaVista" were created to help the users. What is more, if we use the Internet at home, we don't have to search books in libraries, so in this way we can save the priceless time. Moreover, the main advantage of the Internet is the fact that we are able to communicate with everyone in means of various communicators or e-mails. It is much cheaper than telephone and much faster than traditional letters.
On the other hand, there are also some disadvantages. The Internet may cause a kind of disease: the Internet addiction. A lot of people are used to waste their time by taking part in useless chats. Some of us spend too much time before the computer screen, so they neglect our home and work duties. What is more, if you don't have the ADSL connection*, you may spend a lot of money on connections through the modem. The Internet may be a threat especially for children, because there are a lot of web sites designed for adult users which contains pornography or violent pictures.
Summing up, I think the Internet is today an essential tool in education. But we should take advantage of it in very careful way. To avoid our children' addiction we should take care what they are doing and which web pages they are looking through. We should be aware that the Internet is the great source of information, but because of many liars and cheaters I will be very careful in considering as the way of finding true friendship or partnership.
