Elvis Aaron Presley was a rock'n'roll singer, but not only that - he was also one of the most important figures in the pop culture of the 20th century. He was born in 1935, in the South of the USA. In 1954 he recorded his first single with a song "That's Alright Mama", which soon gained popularity. His songs (such as "Heartbreak Hotel", "Hound Dog", "Teddy Bear", "Jailhouse Rock" became very popular with the young listeners. In the 60s he became a movie star and even when the Beatles were on the peak of their popularity in Europe, Elvis remained the most popular singer in the USA. He sang ballads, country, pop, rock and rhythm'n'blues songs, but his favourite kind of music was gospel. He performed until the last years of his life. He died from a heart attack in 1977. But the legend outlived his death. Many people still believe that Elvis did not die, but that he chose a peaceful private life. His music is still popular and many artists record his songs as a tribute to the King of Rock'n'Roll.
