If I ever had a chance to visit the UK, I would first go to Scotland. I dream of going to its capital city- Edinburgh. This city is very popular among people all around the world. Millions of visitors go to Edinburgh each year. It is considered the center of culture and entertainment. The landscapes around Edinburgh are wonderful. There are beautiful buildings there and there happen many different international festivals. The theatrical festival in Edinburgh is very popular. The bet known monument of Edinburgh is the Castle. it was built almost one thousand years ago. It is a huge fortress situated on a hill. Each year tourists may take part in the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. It takes place on the castle's hill. This is a parade lasting three weeks. It begins in August and ends in September. During the parade, the audience can see different marches, fireworks and listen to military music.

As I already mentioned, there is the Edinburgh Festival happening each year in Edinburgh. The first festival took place in 1947. For more than 50 years the Festival attracts the greatest theatres and performances from the entire world. For several weeks, in many places there happen different performances- not only theatrical. There are also operas, dancing performances, comedies and concerts. Apart from the official part, there is also the unofficial part of the Festival- the Fringe. The groups that perform there, are mostly non-commercial and amateur. To tell the truth, this unofficial part attracts more attention and people have more fun there, than on the other one.

There are hundreds of monumental historical buildings in the city. For example, the Hollyrood House- the great mansion, which was founded in the beginning of16th century. In the past, it used to be the residence of the British Queen, when she visited Scotland. The next well known building is the Lady Stair's House. It was built in 1622. In this building there is a library, where the works of Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson are kept. The Royal Mile is the main street of Edinburgh. It goes straight to the castle and most of the famous buildings stand along it.

There is one more place, which is said to be worth visiting while in Edinburgh. It is the Colton Hill. It is 335 ft high and from the top of it there one can admire the beauty of the whole city. There are many interesting monuments on this hill, for example the Nelson monument. The National Museum is also situated there.

Edinburgh is also famous if its art galleries, museums, theaters. There is also the old university (founded in 1582) and the Edinburgh Academy.
