The illegal trade of children and women seems to be a great problem in Europe. The organization which provides help for women, who were made to become prostitutes- La Strada- announced that each year more than 5000 women are unwillingly lured into night clubs, peep shows, salons of massage and brothels on the West.
It is very sad, but the statistics show that Polish women make the numerous group of the victims of such practices. Eastern European women are exported to the West by many illegal groups, Mafia and gangs. The women and children for sex business are recruited among the social groups where there is high rate of unemployment, among waitresses and in the Internet. They are said that there is a job waiting for them. They go abroad as tourists. After they cross the borders of the country where they are supposed to work, their 'employers' take away their documents. Most of them get intoxicated. They are forced to drink alcohol and take drugs. They are put in the horrible places, become prisoners. They have no chance to escape or even rebel. If they try to do so, they are beaten and they get no food. Each day their 'employers' earn a few thousands euros on every single one.
The problem of being sold and imprisoned concerns not only women, but also children. They are being sold to many childless, rich marriages in the US and in Western Europe. Most of these kids are taken away from the orphanages and hospitals. It happens that they simply find good families. But not all of them are so lucky. Many illegally adopted children are brought up to play in porno films. What is even worse, some of the people who adopt them turn out to be pedophiles.
Selling children to the western families is extremely profitable. There are also agencies, which 'rent' children to porno cinema. The prices vary according to the kind of services the child offers. Perhaps it shouldn't surprise us that pathological parents often prefer to sell their children to such practices as well.
To sum up, in the opinion of many people, illegal criminal groups from Poland make great profits on the sex trade. There are no good legal regulations and rules, which would help to prevent the development of it. I mentioned only the best known issues of this trade. The police as well as the Polish government are not yet fully aware of the danger. I hope they will realize it soon and that reasonable decisions will be made. The sooner they start, the more people will be saved.
