London is the capital of Great Britain and it is located in the south of England over the River Thames. It is the biggest city in Europe and one of the oldest village in the world. London had existed in ancient times in Rome and than it was called Londinium. London is inhabited by more than 15 million people from all over the world. Mr. Boris Johnson is one of the most important person representing the city as the City Mayor. London is divided into 32 districts, the most important of these is the City of London, the City of Westminster, Southwark and Lambeth.

The City is a major cultural center where you can find many famous places such: Opera Covent Garden, famous orchestras (London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra) and theater (including the National Theater). There are numerous museums and galleries. The most well-known is the British Museum, National Gallery, Tate Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum, Natural History Museum, London Museum, Science Museum, Imperial War Museum. London has a huge number of beautiful parks (Hyde Park, St. James Park, Kew Gardens, Green Park, Regent's Park, and many others). People often spend their lunch time there. You can see them sitting on the ground and having their sandwiches. This is typical picture of London lunch time.

London cuisine is not very popular in the world as it is famous of being heavy and unhealthy. The traditional English breakfast consists of: bacon, eggs, toast, tomatoes, beans, sometimes oatmeal flakes, mushrooms or sausages. This breakfast is usually served in local pubs, shops, petrol stations and its called „early bird” or „morning deli”. Together with coffee&tee machines this kind of eating out is very popular among working people who rush to work every morning. There is not much left to mention about English dinner or great English restaurants as fish&chips take away is the English best know „fish”.

Most restaurants in London are owned by emigrants such Chinese, Italian, Greek or others.

You can find plenty of real foreign restaurants in emigrant districts such China Town or Polish Ealing Brodway.

London transport is very extensive. There is a subway (the oldest in Europe, from 1863r), buses, bridges, rail and road (London Bridge), two of the largest international airports: Heathrow and Gatwick, train stations (Waterloo, among others, King Cross). There are nearly 500 bank branches in London.

The main tourist attractions of London are: Big Ben, Tower Bridge, the Parliament, the Department Westminsterska, Trafalgar Square, London Eye, St. Paul's Cathedral, Tower of London, British Museum, Buckingham Palace and many others.
