Wolin Island covers about 265 km2 and it is the only one Polish island. It is located between the Baltic Sea the Bay of Szczecin. In the middle of the island there is a national park. The biggest town on the island - Wolin was described in the oldest chronicles as 'Opulentissima civitas Slavorum...' which means 'The Greatest Town of the Slavs'. During World War II, Hitler got on Wolin Island V3 rockets developed and tested. Most of the island belongs to National Park, which was set up on March 3,1960. The forests of the Wolinski National Park are lovely place to walks. Most of these forests are mixed and deciduous ones. The biggest part of these forests is consisted of Pomeranian beech woods, oak and pine woods. The Wolinski National Park is a habitat of many endangered species. There is also a real bird paradise, with a great number of bird species (ca. 230 species).
