Eric Clapton was born on 30th March, 1945 in Rilay. As a child, he lived by his grandparents and was raised by them, because the mother was not able to take care of him. Until the age of 53, he didn't know, who his father was. Afterwards he discovered that he was a son of Canadian pilot. As he was 14, he started playing the guitar. He listened to B.B. King, John Lee Hooker and Buddy Guy and had much admiration for them. He loved blues and wanted to become the musician.
He went to college but in 1963 he was kicked off. He became a member of the 'Yardbirds'. He started to study in the art school, where he met Keith Relf. He was s student of this school for 18 months and afterwards he started to play the guitar in the band 'Bluesbreakers'. Soon he became widely known as the very talented guitar player. All those, who had a chance to listen to his play, were truly amazed.
He started his own band in 1966. Together with Ginger Baker- a drummer and Jack Bruce- a bassist they started to play music and became quite famous.
Their firs single- "Wrapping Paper" appeared in November 1966, together with the album "Fresh Cream". They called themselves 'Cream'.
At the beginning of 1968 the band started the first big tour around the USA, which took 6 months.
They played their greatest concert for more than 200000 listeners in Hyde Park in summer 1969. This concert was recorded and made the 'live' album of the 'Cream'. However, they didn't play well at this concert. Clapton thought that it was the sign that he should stop playing.
